Endless Possibility: Choose Your Own Adventure — Life Is The Future

Interestingly enough, this month of Acquisitions Only posts did not feel like a break. In some ways, I simply hoarded ideas without pushing myself to reach a working theory or conclusion. In other words, it was not nearly as restful or satisfying as I hoped or expected. However, it did give me an idea for this post: Readers’ Choice. Here are some extremely rough ideas that I have been ruminating on throughout April. The topic with the largest number of votes over the next week will be the May’s Free Subscriber Post (May 11).

1. The Artifice of Instagram: In researching Hermès, my Discover page has become inundated with content creators devising elaborate scenarios in which they can present themselves as living an exceptionally classy and comfortable lifestyle. These seemingly everyday depictions taken from a bird’s eye view, as if by happenstance, is what makes this version of aspirational content fascinating, particularly in light of TikTok’s realism — and uncertain fate.

2. A Highly Critical Read of The Met Gala: Each year I grow increasingly apoplectic over this event. I do not see this changing with the Spring 2024 gala and exhibition. Do you care to know why? It has quite a bit to do with Anna Wintour herself.

3. Fashion Guilty Pleasures: Items and styles I still love that probably give you the ick — or will at least make you question my bonafides. A topic heavily inspired by my friend Sally’s perspective on the “pick-me” women of 90s alternative rock, methinks the Hermès Collier de Chien bracelet is right up there with Tori Amos. Comes with a playlist to match.
